WVUV FAQs

Here are some frequently-asked questions concerning WVUV-FM...

Q: How is V103 connected with 93KHJ?

A: V103 is owned by by South Seas Broadcasting, Inc., an American Samoa corporation.  South Seas Broadcasting also owns 93KHJ (KKHJ-FM), Island Television (KKHJ-TV/Channel 30/Cable 10) and the Island Info Channel (Cable 13).

Q: Why do you call the station "V103?"

A: It sounds cool!

Q: How can my business advertise on V103?

A: Call us at 684-633-7793. Advertising on V103 is an economical way to generate more sales at your place of business. (See "Advertise on V103" on the menu bar at left).

Q: My church is having a bake sale. Can you announce it on-air for us?

A: V103 provides a limited number of free Public Service Announcements for qualified non-profit organizations. If you are engaged in a not-for-profit event and are not paying to advertise in any other media, you may qualify for free announcements. See "PSAs" (on the menu bar above) for more details.

Q: I play in a band. How can we get our songs played on V103?

A: If the music is Samoan or Polynesian, we'd love to hear it. Drop a CD by the station. If we like it, chances are we'll play it.

Q: How do I get to be a DJ?

A: It's not as easy as you think. Having a good voice helps, but it's also necessary to have a fun personality and the ability to relate with people. Unlike the "old days", there are very few live DJs spinning records, so the job opportunities are limited. But, if you think you have what it takes, send us your resume. (See "Employment Opportunities" on the menu bar above).

Q: Are all the DJs on V103 actually in Pago Pago?

A: Yes, all V103 announcers are local people. However, some of our regular programming is what we call "pre-produced."

Q: Since all radio stations west of the Mississippi River have call-signs that start with a "K", how did the station get WVUV as a call-sign?

A: WVUV-AM's history dates from WWII, during which it was part of "the Coconut Wireless" network, all of which had call-signs starting with a "W." All but WVUV were disbanded after the war. Today, WVUV has the distinction of being the farthwest west "W" call-sign in the U.S. and the only "W" call-sign in the Pacific.

Q: Where is WVUV located?

A: Or studio facility is in Pago Plaza, in the same location as 93KHJ. Our transmitting facility is atop Mt. Oletele, overlooking Tafuna.
